At New Legacy, our weekly schedule includes LTLs (Leaving to Learn), because we believe meaningful learning happens when students are exposed to new experiences beyond the classroom. This week, we took students to the State Capitol for Advocacy Day, a day when students talk to our state legislators about the importance of charter schools. Students from charter schools across the state attended, and leaders from both the Senate and the House addressed the full group.
Students and staff also spoke to their local legislators. We are thankful to Senator Mike Wiessman for taking the time to meet with New Legacy students. He spoke about his journey into politics and the rewards and challenges of his job. Much of the legislation he is working on helps the people of Aurora, including our students.
Having students active in the community is vital. I want to thank the community (you) for the many ways you give to both generations of New Legacy’s students.
