About Our ELC

New Legacy is two schools in one. Our high school serves all students with an emphasis on pregnant and parenting students. Our onsite Early Learning Center (ELC) primarily serves the children of those high school students. Extra slots are made available to staff and community members.

Eligibility & Enrollment

Our Early Learning Center (ELC) is open to all children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. The children of enrolled high school students have first priority. When the ELC has capacity for tuition-based families, children of NLCS staff will be given the first opportunity to enroll. Additional vacancies will be offered to other public school employees.

Curriculum

The ELC uses the Creative Curriculum, which is based on the philosophy that children speak to us through their behavior, that play is the child’s vehicle for understanding the world, and that the child and family must be the central focus when developing programs that value and initiate lifelong learning. Our goal is for children to become independent, self-confident, and inquisitive learners.

We assess students regularly using tools like Teaching Strategies Gold and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire.

Tuition

If you are a high school student enrolled at New Legacy, the ELC is available to your child at no cost to you.

All other families can take advantage of programs like CCCAP, Universal Preschool, and our sliding-scale tuition. Parents are only charged for days school is in session.

For tuition questions, contact ELC Director Ceci Reyes at creyes@newlegacycharter.net.

Schedule

New Legacy operates on the traditional school year calendar. The ELC is closed during the summer, fall break, winter break, spring break, and all holidays observed by Aurora Public Schools. See the school calendar for the current schedule. Parents are only charged for days school is in session.

The ELC operates 5 days a week. Daily pickup and dropoff times are listed below.

For families of high school students:

  • Drop off: 8:15—8:45 a.m.
  • Pickup (Tuesdays and Thursday): 2:00 p.m.
  • Pickup (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays): 4:00 p.m.

For community families:

  • Pickup: 3:30—4:30 p.m.
A Day In The Life

A typical day in the ELC includes meals, snacks, nap/quiet time, story and music time, outdoor time (weather permitting), and free play.

Your child will be given breakfast, lunch, and two nutritious snacks each day. Through Colorado’s Healthy School Meals for All program, these will be provided at no cost to you. High school students pick up their children for lunch and eat with them in the cafeteria.

With parent approval and active support, toddlers between the ages of 18 months and 3 years will be assisted with toilet training in preparation for transitioning to the preschool room.

Health & Wellness

Every child must have a current physical and immunization record on file.

If your child is sick, please reference the CDPHE’s How Sick Is Too Sick? document to determine whether to bring them to school or keep them home.

My son is growing into such an extraordinary person, and his teachers play a huge role in that. They learn how to share and clean up after themselves. Every morning, my son starts to name each one of his classmates and teachers. I just recently found out that my son is learning Spanish, French, and Arabic.

Zaria

Every time I go to see him in the ELC, my baby is smiling.

Tylayja

[My daughter’s] teacher treats all of the children like her own and bonds with each child in their unique way. My daughter is more social than children not going to an ELC. She has a better shot of making new friends and experiencing the world.

Daisy

The ELC provides stability for my son and creates happy moments learning new things, with body and mind.
