The beginning of every school year is special as we welcome back our students and staff. This year is off to a strong start, with our students already heading back out of the building and into the world. At New Legacy, we believe learning happens everywhere, and that means students should be out in the world, learning through real experiences. We call it Real World Learning (RWL), and we truly mean it.
Our high school students have jumped right into RWL through Leaving to Learns, internship interviews, shadow days, and, for some, the start of their internships. One highlight was our Internship Fair, where students had the opportunity to connect directly with mentors and explore potential career pathways. Several students even secured internships as a result of the connections they made that day.
We have also been working with the Colorado Education Initiative (CEI) to study and better understand what makes our model unique. Their first report highlights how our approach is helping make education better for many students and identifies common themes woven throughout our work. The report found that our students are anchored by consistent support, surrounded by psychological safety, and organized around their individual goals.
At New Legacy, we work to remove structural barriers while investing in relationships and building support into the structure of our school. All of this is another way of saying what has always been at the heart of our work: one student at a time.
