When Carmen and Rogelio found out they were expecting Isabella, they knew they wanted to continue their education while staying close to their baby. Because they knew families that previously attended New Legacy Charter School, they were already familiar with the opportunity it offers young families. Then Rogelio’s younger brother, Jesus, also chose to attend New Legacy with them. From her first day, Carmen felt welcomed by teachers and peers, while Rogelio values the daily conversations and consistent encouragement from staff. “Every day is important,” he shared.

They are grateful that the Early Learning Center has helped Isabella develop routines and build social skills. Carmen feels more prepared both academically and professionally, and both say the parenting class has helped them be more intentional about talking to and engaging with Isabella to support her development. With social-emotional support, transportation, and teachers who understand the realities of young parenthood, they feel truly supported as a family.

Looking ahead, Carmen plans to study psychology in college and currently works part-time, while Rogelio is exploring his interests through Leave to Learn opportunities. They encourage younger students not to give up. Carmen advises new parents to “Think bigger, and focus on you and your baby’s future.” Rogelio added, “This school is unique. They really want you to have a good future.”
